CityArt Walking Sculpture Tour

CityArt Walking Sculpture Tour in City Center Mankato:

See and enjoy art out in the open along the core blocks of the Mankato and North Mankato City Center. Launched in the Spring of 2011, you will find twenty five sculptures by artists from around the world in a wide range of mediums set on pedestals of locally crafted Minnesota Limestone that, when combined with the vibrancy of existing street life, offers a crown jewel to the core blocks of City Center Mankato.

This outdoor art exhibit is displayed year-round with maps and ballots along the 6 block route allowing participants to view and vote on their favorites at their leisure. Upon the conclusion of the People’s Choice voting the favorite is purchased and placed in the PublicArt collection of the City Center. Furthermore, the tour was crafted to offer an interactive art experience through the ability to scan the plaques of each work with a smart phone to gain more information on any particular sculpture.

But the larger benefits are seen in the tour’s ability to cultivate a lively and active street life. Regardless of the reasons people are spending more time in the streets enjoying the art or showing it off to visiting friends or family. This project has been warmly received for its improvement to sidewalk aesthetics and highly regarded for its ability to attract visitors to shops and restaurants on or near the tours path.

The CityArt project is organized and operated by the City Center Partnership and was made possible through the efforts, support and generosity of many in the Greater Mankato community, including local governments, businesses and non-profits.

Based on its early success the tour is anticipated to expand in year two.
